For Richard, MINI wasn't simply something to get from one place to another. It was what sparked his enjoyment of cars and made driving something to look forward to.

"MINI in the first instance, it reminds me of youth, it reminds me of learning about cars. It was the teaching aid, it was the thing that made me get out and drive, it was the thing that made me enjoy travel."

When the first modern MINI arrived, Richard made his move. He bought a black MINI Cooper, complete with a personal registration, leather seats and electric power steering - a detail he still remembers fondly.

"Every time you got into it, you looked forward to driving it."

For Richard, the feeling of owning a MINI is difficult to explain to someone who doesn't share the same passion.

"And people don't understand it if you don't love MINIs, but it's kind of in your bone marrow."

That's perhaps what makes his story so fitting for 25 Years of the Modern MINI. His love for the brand hasn't simply lasted - it's become part of who he is.

"It wasn't a vehicle, it just became part of you. And that's what MINI has always been. It's been part of me."

And as the next generation of MINI continues to arrive, that excitement hasn't gone anywhere.
